My Process
Walls:
After all the furniture has been moved to the center of the room or out of the room your job is done. I then proceed by taking off all of the electrical plates and applying drywall mud to all of the areas that need it. When sanding down the mud,. I am also sure to sand down any other inconsistences in the wall that can be sanded (mostly old paint drips). I then apply two coats of paint to be sure that the walls are fully covered while using drop cloths to prevent roller splatter.
Ceilings:
I start by laying down plastic sheets over furniture and drop cloths over the floor. I will apply an oil based primer to any stains in the ceiling. Rolling the paint in the direction of the sunlight from windows to hide roller marks best as possible.
Trim:
Baseboards, door jams, doors, railings, crown molding, and cabinets all fall under the same category and are very tricky to paint. My process for this kind of work always starts with sanding the surface to create rougher surface for the paint to stick to. I use a high bond primer that is designed to stick to the surface along with 2-3 coats of Sherwin Williams highest grade trim paint. All of these steps ensure that the paint will stick to the surface as long as possible even in high traffic areas.
Decks:
I always start decks by power washing the surface to get all the dirt and any loose paint off of the surface. Depending on the quality of the deck I will apply a wood filler to cover some of the holes in the wood. Before rolling the deck I will be sure to brush in between the boards to cover all the areas with paint.
